B&W Sunday

in response to Paula's Guest Challenger, Sue Judd -  NEGATIVE SPACE

Negative space (sometimes referred to as white space) is the space in your image that does not contain your main subject (the positive space). It might be clear space with no detail or almost none, perhaps predominantly black or white, or it  might be a blurred background that contrasts with your (in focus) subject. Negative space is perhaps the single most important aspect that helps the subject in your work – the element of interest – stand out and attract the viewer’s attention.

in response to Pippa's RED challenge

In the Shinto realm, the fox deity known as KITSUNE is often decked in red bibs. The fox is the messenger of Inari, the deity of food, farmers, and the rice harvest.  Rice is sacred in Japan, closely associated with fertility (the pregnant earth) and with sustaining life. Inari and Inari’s foxes must therefore be placated -- otherwise it would be disastrous to the livelihood of the nation’s farmers and people.

Thursday's Special

in response to Paula's TS - Traces of the Past (Y2-01)
Poreč, Croatia

Poreč historical festival – Giostra - gathers over 250 participants in costumes who, throughout the 3 festival days, evoke for the spectators life in the Baroque period. This cultural, educational and tourist manifestation stems from historical facts, so most of its events are connected to the 18th century. The central festival event, which also gave Giostra its name, is a knight tournament Giostra, reconstructed from the rules of a tournament held in Poreč in the year 1745.

B&W Weekend

in response to The Weekend in B&W

The Show goes on

Cardinal is hosting The Changing Seasons for the second year
The idea is to capture all the changes of one location throughout the year: the seasons, the weather, different times of the day

This year we can choose (or combine) Version 1 or Version 2:
V1  Each month, post 5-20 photos in a gallery (only new shots)
V2 Each month, post one photo (recipe, painting, drawing, whatever) that represents your   interpretation of the month
I will be presenting downtown Brussels in B&W in V1

these photos were taken during the first half of February...

.... which is famous for its carnivals
Carnival of Oruro (Bolivia)

...followed by the first Chinese New Year Parade in Brussels
